In December a team of 12 went to Las Canoas and San Juan, Dominican Republic to hold medical clinics and to install a water purification system at the church in Las Canoas.   Our team saw about 650 people at the clinics.  Everyone was given vitamins and parasite medication; others were treated as needed.

The team planned to install a water purification system at the Church in Las Canoas so it was purchased and taken with them.  While the team was there they learned that purified water cannot be purchased in the Las Canoas area - they don't have any to sell.  They needed purified water to mix meds with to give to people at the Clinic.  Can you imagine not having clean drinking water in your home or not able to purchase it?  The people there get their water from the River and use it for drinking, cooking and bathing.  Now the Church there has the purification system set up and working at Nelson's home (Nelson is the pastor).  What an opportunity the Church now has to give the people in their area clean drinking water!

Thank you to all from Liberty and other Churches who helped make this trip successful by giving supplies and/or providing the money to purchase meds and supplies!

The next step of our ministry with our Dominican friends is to get the rest of the clothing, shoes and vitamins sent over to them.  We had too much and the team was not able to take everything with them (what a great problem to have!).  We will be collecting money to offset the expense of sending these items.  If you would like to donate, please make your check payable to Liberty Christian Church and memo it for sending supplies to the D.R.

Another Mission Trip Opportunity in December 17-21, 2009

This team from Liberty will be going to Las Canoas, D.R.  They will hold a small clinic and also install a water purification system in the church that will provide the town with clean drinking and cooking water.  Currently these people get all of their water from the river at the edge of town.  The team will be collecting dry baby formula, children's shoes, baby clothes, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. to take with them in December.

Update on July Mission Trip...

Come Sunday night, August 9, at 7:00 to hear all about both trips.

We traveled all over the country visiting 8 different churches.   We did a VBS at all 8 churches.  Kyle preached at 4 worship services, and a skit was done by the kids at 2 churches during the service.

We learned that the church in Canoa was hit by a hurricane last September.  We distributed over 100 pairs of shoes to the people there.  The team plans to purchase a water purifyer system for the church in Canoa because they don't have access to clean water.  If you would like to help with the purchasing of the water system, please let us know.

Both teams met a lot of people and many new friendships were made.

Update on the June 16 - 23 Mission Trip...

The first group is back safe and sound from the Dominican Republic.  The women from the team taught five women's conferences, attended by more than 400 women, about health issues and healthy relationships.  The team traveled up to four hours by bus to lead a conference.  We were the first mission team to do a women's conference and the Dominicans are already planning next year.  The Dominican women were hungry for the workshops and were very thankful that the workshops were typed in their language so they could teach other women.

Two of the men from the team did Pastor Training with 18 of the 27 pastors from Centro Cristiano.  The Dominican pastors really appreciated this teaching because they have no formal training.  They also were very happy to meet the Americans who were praying for them and trying to help their churches.

While our team was at Camp Canaan, there was also a team of 35 from an Ohio Christian Church doing construction and VBS.  We were able to help with the construction and painting.

The Dominican women and pastors wer very thankful for the hygiene packs and extra shampoos, etc. that you gave for us to take.  Thank you!

It was a great trip. Thank you for your prayers and support.  Be praying for the next trip -- July 28-August 4 with our high school kids and adults.

Please pray for the people going on the mission trips this summer.  Most of the people who are going have never been to the Dominican Republic and some have never been out of the United States.  Please pray for safety and good health but mostly for changed people.
